Can you imagine being your ward of friend being ordered to withdraw from University or any other institution of learning due to poor performance just after one year?
Well, that is the plight of these 40 students of the University of Ibadan (UI) who have been directed to withdraw from the university due to poor academic performance as at the last academic session.
The affected students did not pass up to 20 units at the end of their first year of registration in the University.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Pro Abel Idowu Olayinka disclosed this on Thursday at the matriculation of 3,502 students for the 2016/ 2017session, held at the university’s International Conference Centre.
He also said that out of the 29,002 candidates who scored 200 and above in the UTME, only 3,074 were selected.
A total of 3,502 candidates, UTME and Direct Entry inclusive, have been cleared and are expected to take the matriculation.
Prof. Olayinka told the new students that it’s a rare privilege for them to be admitted into the premier university.
He also urged them to guard the privilege by following the laid down rules and perform excellently in their academic pursuit.
