The seeming superiority contest between Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime and Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu appear to have taken a different turn.

The latest victim is the leader of Awgu legislative council, Kingsley Okeke, who was impeached and suspended by his colleagues. Mr. Okeke, a strong loyalist of Gov. Chime was impeached along other principal officers of the councils by those believed to belong to the Ekweremadu camp.

HOMELAND NEWS reports that the Awgu area of Enugu state is a stronghold of the deputy president of the senate and his political son Hon. Okechukwu.
Majority of the councilors in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu, accused the leadership of the Legislative Council of carrying over grievances arising from their failure to botch a recently held Enugu West PDP Zonal Meeting.

They alleged that the Council Chairman, Nathanus Nze, in collaboration with the impeached members, hired notorious thugs numbering over 70 who invaded the legislative chambers.

“This act of violence sponsored by the Leadership of the Legislative Council in connivance with Chairman of the Council, Hon Nathanus Nze, is viewed as a gross misconduct, anti-party, anti-peace, and betrayal of the trust reposed on them by the good people of Awgu.” The statement read.

The Awgu Legislative Council now has adjourned plenary indefinitely, citing security concerns and possible break down of law and order even as security operative have taken over the council premises.
