From Paul Ibe, Enugu

The Enugu state chapter of the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has adopted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial candidate in the state, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as its preferred choice for the February 28 2015 gubernatorial poll.

According to the party, its choice of Ugwuanyi is predicated upon his track road of performance, in the federal House of representatives, expressing confidence that with him as the next governor of Enugu state, there will be a secured future for the people.

Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Friday, APGA the state chairman, Chief Okechukwu Nkolagu, said it would have been an effort in futility if APGA had fielded any other candidate to run for the party if not Ugwuanyi.

Nkolagu said his party was cautious on the issue of a Governorship candidate  even when it witnessed a surge of aspirants that wanted to use the party platform to contest for governorship of the state.

The APGA chairman noted that adoption of the PDP candidate was in line with the national party’s adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan for President.

APGA however said it only conceded to PDP President Goodluck Jonathan for President and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for governorship and urged the good people of Enugu state to however vote for APGA candidates in the national and state assembly elections where their candidates exist.

Nkolagu disclosed that APGA in Enugu state fielded candidates for the 3 senatorial seats in the state, 5 House of Representative candidates and 11 House of Assembly candidates.

He also recalled that in 2011, APGA secured victories in the local government elections in the state such as in Ngwo-Assa ward in Udi local government area and Eha-Amufu ward 3 in Isi-Uzo LGA, respectively.
