fisher men

The Artisan Fishermen Association of Nigeria on Monday urged politicians in the Niger Delta to come up with workable plans to boost fish production as they canvass for votes.

Coordinator of the association, Samuel Ayadi made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Yenagoa.

He remarked that many times, the policies formulated for the agriculture sector often neglects the fishing subsector.

Mr. Ayadi advised fishermen to extract specific promises from the political office seekers if they ask for their votes.
He also urged them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards  and vote according to the dictates of their conscience.

“Our members will engage office seekers and ensure that whatever agricultural policy they intend to pursue must incorporate our needs as artisanal fishermen.

He said that fishermen had realised that participating in the electoral process was an essential factor in national development.

He expressed the hope that when they eventually get to office, the politicians would support the formulation of policies that would benefit and protect the interest of fishermen.
