fed med cent owerri

From Nnamdi Ofonye, Owerri

To return normalcy and bring back full medical activities to the Federal Medical Center in Owerri, Imo state, the management of the center has dropped all the contentious issues that led to the crisis rocking the hospital.

Addressing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting between the board, management and leaders of the workers’ union, the board acting chairman, Senator Amadi Okorafor attributed the crisis that took the ever busy medical center by storm, to what he described as communication gap between the management and its members of staff.

He said that the management considered the negative implication the continued strike will bring to the ordinary and sick people in the state before taking the decision, while expressing worries that the industrial action is gradually escalating into a full blown lawlessness.

The workers in the medical facility under the auspices of Nigeria union of Allied and Health Professionals NUAHP had on Tuesday gone on strike to press home their demands over their welfare, privatisation of some units of the hospital and alleged victimisation of the staff.
