Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, says carelessness and indiscipline is responsible for frequent tanker explosions in the state.
Several shops were razed on Tuesday in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, after a loaded fuel tanker crashed around the Iyana Ipaje area of Lagos.
There is not yet an established cause of the incident. While some said the tanker fell off an over-head bridge, crossing the Lagos Abeokuta express way and others said it crashed while negotiating a bend in the area.
The governor who visited the site said it was still fortunate that there was no loss of lives though lots of property were destroyed.
“It would also mean that our tanker drivers have to start to do something about their operations. We cannot continue to record loss of lives and property because our tanker drivers are not disciplined.”
“We’ve also recorded two other incidences, just like this one in other parts of Lagos overnight; one in Badagry and the other one in the Ojo area”.
