From Steph Clem, Umuahia

Abia state governor and chairman South East Governor’s forum, Theodore Orji has denied he shunned the World Igbo Day event that held in Awka on Monday September 29.
The event was put together by the apex Igbo organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo.

He said his absence was because it coincided with the national honours award presentation in Abuja where he emerged as one of the recipients.

The governor, who stated this upon return to the state capital on Tuesday, said that himself and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State were honoured at the event, adding that he however sent a representative.

Chief Orji said he will not undermine the Igbo nation as he is a “committed to the Igbo race.”
