Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and his Abia State counterpart, Theodore Orji, seems to have put away their political rivalry as both Governors fondly embraced each other at the traditional marriage of Okorocha’s daughter to the amazement of other guests.
Gov. Orji who stormed the Imo Governor’s Country Home in Ogboko, Ideato South Council Area of the State, at about 5.00pm with a large entourage, was received by Gov. Okorocha amidst loud cheers of “Ochendo global”, one of Orji’s numerous appellation.
It would be recalled that the two Governors of the neighboring states, have been locked in a war of words, since the controversial sacking of Imo indigenes in Abia Civil Service.
Although Gov. Orji, who is also the Chairman of Southeast Governor’s Forum, immediately after his arrival went to his reserved sit close to Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, political observers, were of the view that the visit has political significance, especially the plot by Governors from the zone to prevail on Okorocha to drop his Presidential ambition and endorse President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.
However, a reliable source close to the Imo Governor who pleaded anonymity, dismissed political undertone to the Abia Governor’s visit, “Orji came in his capacity as the Chairman of the Southeast Governor’s Forum and it was not political. You cannot also rule out that the fact that Abia and Imo are neighboring states and Orji cannot possibly stay away from Okorocha’s daughter’s marriage”.
Gov. Okorocha in his speech admitted that he had been at logger head with Gov. Orji. shortly before handing the bride over to the groom, he said, “I am happy that my colleagues are here, both those who are my friends and those that give me headache. I am happy that my daughter’s marriage has made those that give me headache to seat by my side”.
However, in what seem to give credence to the suspicions of many that Gov. Orji is on a mission to woo Rochas back to PDP in line with the recent plot by the PDP to bring back all their founding members who left the party, he said “I will continue to gather Rochas Okorocha until he retraces his steps and follow me.
But with this, political and apolitical citizens of Imo are still watching to see what will unfold before the 2015 elections as some say that Okorocha has a penchant for switching camps before every election.
Other top politicians at the occasion include the Governor of Oyo state, senator Ajimobi, former minister of finance Olu Falae, and former PDP national Chairman Audu ogbe and a host of others from within and outside the state.
