gov orji 1

From Steph Clem, Umuahia

Abia state governor, Chief Theodore Orji has emerged winner of the People’s Democratic primaries for Abia Central senatorial zone held on Sunday at the Umuahia Township stadium.

He was a single aspirant for the seat in the PDP as all the 221 valid votes cast went to him.
The governor would be the PDP flag bearer in the 2015 general elections for the zone which is currently being occupied by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who is said to have left the party for APGA.

Senator Enyi Abaribe of Abia South had a field day too with his landslide win of 169 votes over his only contender in the race who polled only 2 votes

In Abia North senatorial zone, the delegates made true their word through their votes as senator Uche Chukwumerije was beaten hands down by Hon Mao Ohuabunwa who polled one hundred and three votes as against the twenty one for Chukwumerije.

Since the declaration of senator Chukwumerije that he was seeking re-election, the elders and stakeholders from the zone have not hidden their displeasure over it and went ahead to prove it at the primaries.

They have surely frustrated his fourth term bid by denying him ticket to fly the party’s flag next year.

The Governor, Chief Orji after he was pronounced winner by the returning officer, Chief Ndidi Okereke, thanked the delegates and those that persuaded him to run for senate and promised not to fail them.

He said all those qualities which people saw and value in him that made them buy him the nomination form will be sustained and used for the betterment of the zone.

According to him, there lots of able and qualified persons from the zone who could have contested for the same seat, but they thought it wise to bury their ambition and instead support him to be their representative.
