Martin Elechi

It is now the political trend for state governors to grab the senatorial seat of their zone on ending their tenure as governor. There are very few governors who are not on this track and Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state is not part of this few.
Now, Traditional rulers and Leaders of Thought of Ikwo Noyo clan in Ikwo council area of Ebonyi state, have unanimously endorsed Governor, Martin Elechi for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial seat in 2105.

The action was part of the resolution reached after a crucial peace and development meeting of top traditional rulers, and title holders (Ozos), political leaders and other stakeholders of the clan.
HOMELAND reports that Governor Elechi, who is currently serving his second term in office, is now in his 80s.

In a communiqué read to newsmen at the end of the meeting by Senator Emmanuel Onwe, on behalf of other stakeholders in Abakaliki , the group called on all sons and daughters of the clan to continue to give their unequivocal support, loyalty, solidarity and remain steadfast with Elechi’s administration until he completes a smooth, peaceful and successful transition on May 29, 2015.

They also called on the governor to respond affirmatively to the agitation by citizens of the zone to pick the mandate and represent them in the senate.

The people noted that Gov. Elechi has demonstrated extraordinary capacity to manage complex relationships with competing political interests at all levels thereby giving  “Ebonyi state the best positive public image it has ever enjoyed-nationally and internationally”.

The clan also commended the governor for his decision to honour the dictate of “justice and equity” by championing the rotation of the governorship position to the southern zone of the state, which according to them is “an inspirational act of wisdom, maturity, integrity and fair mindedness”.
