Any attempt to “further maginalise” the Igbos will be greeeted with strong move for self-determination by the Igbos.

This threat was issued on Tuesday in Awka by the Chairman of State Presidents of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organisation, Dr. Chris Eluemunoh. According to him, Ndigbo had long concluded on such option but just waiting for the proper time.

Dr. Eluemuno said the warning has become necessary against the backdrop of anticipated persecution from the incoming government in retaliation for how the Igbos voted during the just concluded elections.

He announced that a delegation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by a former National President of the group, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, will be attending a United Nations event in June, to present the position of the people of South East on its demand for a sovereign state.

“Buhari must give us one additional state to put us at par with our other brothers. He must also implement the report of the National Conference. If he turns his back to that report, he is turning his back to the unity of Nigeria. If he kills the report, he is killing the unity of Nigeria.” Dr. Eluemunoh had stated.

While commending the “change” that came with the last elections, the Ohanaeze chieftain said there will never be any real change in Nigeria except the country is restructured.

Dr. Eluemuno denied that Ohanaeze is fractionalised  but disowned the Ralph Obioha-led Ohanaeze Caretaker Committee that visited the President-elect last week.
