If current political moves in Imo State can be solely relied upon, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state and in deed, in most others states of the South East region may need special intervention to ensure its survival.
Recall that weeks back, the entire Memebers of the House of Representatives from Anambra State voted on the platform fo APGA dumped the party for PDP.
Just less than a week after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rolled out its timetable, coupled with the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate, the party has started reaching out to some political bigwigs across the country to enable it build a formidable team that will withstand the visible challenge from the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.
The leadership of the party in Imo state has initiated moves to lure a former governorship aspirant on the platform of APGA, Martins Agbaso to join its fold.
Senator Hope Uzodimma who led the team said that the party is out to woo and lobby all the founding members of the party who left due to some reasons. He stressed that while the structure which they are working on will be too formidable for President Jonathan to ride on and coast to victory in 2015, it will also help to usher in a government that will address and redress what he called the anti- people policies of the present administration led by Rochas Okorocha.
State Chairman of the PDP, Nnamdi Anyaehie told Chief Agbaso that machineries have been put in place to address issues which left them aggrieved and forced them to jump ship.
Responding, Chief Agbaso said that he was delighted to receive the PDP leaders in his home but was quick to assert that he needed a little time to consult widely within his party, leaders and followers alike within and outside the state.
Asked if his acceptance to join PDP will not murder his governorship ambition come 2015, the APGA leader stated that all assurances concerning waiver must be given to him by the Party to enable him exercise his full franchise where and when necessary before he could decide to join or not.
Meanwhile, this move if it comes to fruition might be the last straw that captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, also a guber aspirant will be waiting for as he and Chief Agbaso had been locked in a fight to control the structure of the party in the state.
But whether Capt. Iheanacho has the capacity to pull APGA through to electoral victory in Imo State without pillars of the party such as Martin Agbaso, may be a topic for another day.
