The Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State says more than 80% of the materials needed for a successful distribution of Permanent Voters Card have arrived the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State Aniedi Ikoiwak said the materials arrived Port Harcourt on Tuesday morning from Abuja.
The independent national electoral commission INEC had fixed Friday 28th November to commence the distribution of the permanent voter’s cards in the 23 local government areas of rivers state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner said the commission is fully ready for the exercise. He said the commission has also trained more than 4,000 adhoc staff for the three day exercise.
Mr. Ikoiwak also explained that all those who registered in 2011 are eligible to collect their Permanent Voters Card when the exercise begins on Friday. He however appealed to those who may not see their cards to take advantage of the continuous voters registration exercise to register.
Meanwhile some residents of Port Harcourt have urged INEC in the state to ensure that all those who registered in 2011 get their Permanent Voters Card and avoid the confusion that trailed the distribution of the cards in Lagos and some other states of the federation.
