IGP Suleiman Abba

Investigative hearing into last week’s invasion by the Nigeria Police at the National Assembly today suffered major setback before members of the House Committee on Police Affairs.

The meeting was disrupted when the Inspector General of Police Sulieman Abba blatantly refused to acknowledge Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The IGP while giving an insight into Thursday’s confrontation between the police and the lawmakers at the complex referred to the speaker by his name.

This however did not go down well with the lawmakers who asked the IGP to retrace his statement and give honor to the Speaker of the House.
But in his response, the IGP refused to do so noting that the matter was before the court.

This however threw the house into a divided session with the chairman of the committee on police affairs asking for the matter to be adjourned.

This could be another embarrassment for the IGP and his entourage as he was forced to leave the premises without both parties reaching a conclusion.

On the matter of lawmakers been tear gas, the IGP refuted claims noting that the device exploded in an attempt to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, IGP Sulieman also decried the manner in which the police officers were attacked by the lawmakers.

Recall that the House of Representatives had earlier summoned the Inspector General to appear before the house to explain his role over last week’s crisis between the police and the lawmakers, a situation where they were prevented from entering the complex and tear gas.
