Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba has set up a committee to check the menace of incessant communal clashes in many parts of the country.
The Committee tagged “Nigeria Police Committee on Prevention and Management of Communal Clashes” was charged by the IGP to bring to an end, the pervasive communal clashes that have plaque different parts of the nation
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu tasked the committee to among other things encourage and facilitate dialogue among warring parties and Conduct mediation meetings with aggrieved parties with a bid to peacefully resolving the disputes
Others terms of reference giving to the committee co-chaired by four Assistant Inspectors General of Police include to develop and apply early warning mechanisms and systems of threats of communal clashes and to carry out Mediation and application of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services to resolve reported communal disputes before they escalate.
