President Goodluck Jonathan has been described as a selfless leader whose actions have bequeathed a legacy for other African leaders to follow
President of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara made these assertions on Monday at State House, Abuja, after meeting behind closed doors with the Nigerian President
President Ouattara is grateful to Nigeria for leading the way in helping him rescue a mandate that was all but lost about five years ago
The Ivorien leader had won elections in 2010 but the incumbent President as at that time, Laurent Gbagbo had refused to accept defeat which had led to a civil war and the loss of over 3000 lives
He is grateful today that President Jonathan chose the path of honour by conceding victory which he said had saved Nigeria from what had befallen Cote d’Ivoire in those dark days five years ago
But President Ouattara is however not surprised by President Jonathan’s actions because of the exemplary leadership which he says the Nigerian President had provided to the West African subregion
This is indeed high praise from across Nigerian borders which demonstrates to President Jonathan that he made the right choice and his position as a statesman in the international community is guaranteed
