The defence headquarters has refuted the rumour that there will be reprisal attacks on the people of Zaki-Biam by the military. Residents of the community fled their homes after a soldier and policeman were killed in an ambush by the gang.
The military authorities have said that it will track down the culprits and assured that no civilian will be unduly harassed.
A statement signed by Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said there had been apprehension in the community following the incidence which triggered a rumour of impending reprisal attack by the military.
The statement advised the people to return to their homes as the presence of the troops was for their own good.
An armed gang identified as Gana which have been operating along Zaki-biam/Katsina Ala road had attacked the troops on patrol as they were on their way to respond to distress call from civilians in the town on Tuesday. The gang which had reportedly been terrorising the community for some time, also made away with a number of items.
