Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have criticised the relocation of the governorship Election Tribunals in Rivers and Taraba states to Abuja.
The governors’ position was announced in Abuja this morning after a four hour meeting by the forum.
The relocation of the tribunal from Rivers to Abuja was linked to high level insecurity that characterized the election period in the state. It was believed that witnesses may not be free to appear if sittings of the tribunal are held in Port Harcourt or anywhere within the state.
The governors also announced Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state as the new chairman of the forum.
The Ondo state governor is replacing former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio who is now a member of the senate.
The party is controlling 13 out of the 36 states after a not too good outing during the recently held general elections
