The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has seized goods valued over N3m at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Enugu, Deputy Director in-charge of the Airport, John Okwori warned product fakers who may think that Enugu Airport is a safe route for bringing in sub standard goods into Nigeria to have a rethink as the organization has setup office at the airport to checkmate their operations.
He regretted that despite warnings by NAFDAC, people have remained recalcitrant in faking and adulteration of products, The latest trick fakers have adopted according to the agency, was by bringing empty packaging materials with foreign addresses “such that when they bring them down here, if we don’t catch them, they go and fill it up, cock and sell to Nigerians as a product made abroad”.
The NAFDAC official disclosed that, the owners of the consignment which was imported on 15th June, 23rd March and 1st of September, never showed up to collect the goods despite telephone communications, hence customs released the consignment as seizures after waiting for the statutory 90 days even as efforts are on to track them.
