The Independent National Electoral Commission has given the assurance that the presidential election will hold on February 14 as scheduled.
INEC told the National Council of State that it is ready to conduct the February elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, had earlier been sighted on the premises of the State House.
Details of deliberations is not available but the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, who spoke to newsmen after the meeting said the council declared its support for INEC to go ahead and conduct the election as scheduled.
His counterpart from Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, told reporters that INEC has been counseled to put into consideration all the issues raised by members of the counsel and come up with a final decision of what it will do regarding the elections.
Service Chiefs could not guarantee security in those local governments occupied by Boko Haram and so INEC is considering shifting elections in those areas.
In attendance were Nigeria’s past Heads of State, including the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Also present were 28 governors of PDP and APC governed states as well as the deputy governors of Oyo, Borno and Abia states. The acting Governor of Taraba was also in attendance.
The security chiefs, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, were also present as well as former Chief Justices, Dahiru Mustapha and Alpha Belgore.
Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who was expected to attend was, however, absent.
