Succour have came the way of victims of the flood disaster which occured in 2014, in Agbor Enugwu Okutu community, in Nsukka council area of Enugu state, as the National Emergency Management Agency, distributed assorted relief materials valued several millions of naira to them.
HOMELAND NEWS reports that the community was seriously flooded during last year’s rainy season, due to poor drainage system.
Speaking during the presentation of the items, Director- General of NEMA, Mohammad Sani Sidi, said the gesture was aimed at ameliorating the plight of the victims.
Represented by the south east zonal coordinator of the Agency, Major James Eze, the NEMA boss, urged leaders of the community to embark on “some minor projects that could aid in proper channeling of flood.
He also advised the community to mobilise its youths this dry season to clear the drains for easy flow during the wet season “so as to avoid a re- occurrence of their bitter experience in 2014”.
Executive secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, Joseph Offor, had expressed appreciation to NEMA for the intervention and called on the community leaders, to liaise with Nsukka council area on how to grade the roads before the rainy season sets in.
Some of the items distributed includes, dozens of bags of rice, beans, garri, salt, clothes, detergents, toiletries, treated mosquito nets.
Others are, building materials, plastic buckets, mattresses, nylon mats,provisions, vegetable and palm oil, among other materials.
