nlc election crisis

Barely one week after the botched Nigeria Labour Congress election, elders within the labour family on Tuesday met in Abuja and resolved the electoral crisis which almost tore the union apart

Rising from over 7 hours National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the elders in attendance and the aggrieved candidates at the botched 11th Delegates Conference of the NLC fixed 12th of March, 2015 as new date for the workers to elect new leaders of the NLC

By implication, the tenure of Comrade Abdulwaheed Umar-led executive has been extended by ten days

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the NEC meeting, the NLC President Comrade Abdulwahheed Umar said the Union leadership has the power to extend the tenure of serving Executive members by three months in the event of crisis

The reconciliation meeting was attended by Governor Adams Oshomhole of Edo State, Founding President of the NLC, Comrade Hassan Simonu, Comrade Ali Ciroma and other Labour Vétérans.
It will be recalled that the NLC election on Wednesday, February 11, ended in fracas following allegations of irregularities. The intervention by the elders in labour movement in the country was to salvage what is left of the credibility of the NLC which before now have served as the voice of the common man.
