The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has called on members of the public not to engage in panic purchase and hoarding of petroleum products as the Corporation is working with all downstream industry stakeholders to eliminate the noticeable artificially induced fuel queues in some fuel stations.
In a statement signed by the corporation’s Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Ohi Alegbe, NNPC stated that it has already increased substantially, the volume of petroleum products distributed to marketers, stating that it is injecting additional volume of 600, 103.047 metric tonnes of premium motor spirit, the equivalent of 688m litres of petrol into the market within the next 48 hours, to arrest any short fall that may have been triggered by the unnecessary fears of an imminent scarcity of product.
Early this week, some petrol stations in the federal capital were locked to the public because they claimed not to have the product to sell. The move by the NNPC is to check the spread of likely panic accross the country as it said there will not be any scarcity.
