Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Abia state.

He emerged from the governorship primary election conducted Monday at the Umuahia Township stadium.

He beat seven other aspirants including Chief Emeka Nwogu former Labour Minister and Ambassador Okay Emuchay.

He polled a total of 487 to emerge winner, while Dr. Uche Ogah came a distant second with 103 votes.

Ambassador Okay Emuchay scored 3 votes, Chief Marc wabara scored 3 votes, Chief Iheanacho Orji 1 vote, Chief Emeka Nwogu 33, Chief Friday Nwosu 5 and former deputy governor, Hon. Acho Nwakanma 5.

Chairman of the electoral committee for the governorship primaries in the state, Dr. Mrs. Angela Mba had earlier assured the aspirants and delegates that the process will be free and fair.

She said she would not favour any candidate no matter who, adding that the committee will adopt party’s guidelines.

She commended the delegates for comporting themselves in an orderly manner, saying it is the most orderly primary election she had ever witnessed.

It was a free and fair contest witnessed by the high and mighty in the state
