The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic,Owo,Ondo State has resolved to embark on an indefinite strike, in reaction to their 13 months’ salary arrears.
According to a statement after the Union’s congress held last week Thursday, the Chairman, Comrade Arikawe Ade and Secretary, Comrade Fapetu Damilola said that the strike action will start on June 13, 2023.
The statement reads; “We want the payment in full of all outstanding (13 Months) salary arrears owned the staff of the institution.
“The Congress wish to strongly emphasize that the decision above is binding on all the financial members of the union (ASUP),”
Comrade Arikawe said the lecturers are facing a lot of challenges and hardship as a result of the unpaid salaries which have been compounded by the hike in petrol price.
He also appealed to Governor Akeredolu to support the institution to pay the salary arrears.
