Ahmed-Lawan

The drama playing out in the National Assembly may be far from over as the APC lawmakers who are part of the Senate Unity Forum will be heading to court to challenge the election of Bukola Saraki as the President of the Senate.  The group is made up of APC lawmakers who were absent from the inauguration on Tuesday.

The 51 senators were at the International Conference Centre for an alleged meeting at the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Leader of the group, Barnabas Gemade who spoke to journalists on Wednesday after the group staged a walk out from the chamber claimed that the election of principal officers of the senate did not follow constitutional procedure.

â€œOur right to participate in the election of the Senate president is a constitutional right which cannot be taken away by any person or group of persons.

But Like Minds Senators, dismissed the claims as baseless.  Their spokesman, Dino Melaye told newsmen that due process was followed in the election of the President of the Senate. He dared the SUF to proceed and challenge the election in court.

The SUF is made up of senators who supported the APC’s candidacy of Ahmed Lawan for the office of the President of the Senate
