The Federal Government may consider locking down eighteen Local Government areas believed to account for 60% of Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, stated this after the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 meet with president Buhari at the presidential villa Abuja on Monday.

He explained that the affected state government would implement what he termed ‘Precision Lockdown.

He also revealed why the country has been recording low fatality rate, he noted that 80% of the infections are in the age bracket of 31 to 40 years, which he described as a very active part of the population.

Data from the NCDC website revealed that 11 out of the 20 local government areas that account for 60% of the Coronavirus cases are in Lagos State.

The report listed the councils to include Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mushin Local Government Area, Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos and Tarauni Local Government Area in Kano State.

According to the SGF, Nigeria has not reached its peak and with 39 molecular labs, the number of infections will continue to rise.
