Olumide Akpata has been declared winner of the Nigeria Bar Association’s general election for the office of president.
The electoral committee of the association announced all the results early Friday morning, shortly after electronic voting ended.
Mr Akpata polled a total of 9,891 votes (54.3%) defeating Julius Oladele Adeshina and Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, who polled 3,982 and 4,328 votes respectively.
Chairman of the electoral committee, Tawa E. Tawa also announced nine other winners for its other national offices. 18,256 ballots were submitted of 29,636 eligible voters (with 205 opened) .
In his reaction, Mr Akpata, expresses his appreciation for being voted in and assured that by the grace of God, transformational leadership would be witnessed in his administration.
But ThankGod Enahoro speaking for Dr Ajibade said he would communicate to his principal on way forward and appropriate scrutiny.
Congratulating him on his victory, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo wrote, “He brings with him years of enviable success as a distinguished lawyer and is sure to steer the NBA to glorious heights. Congratulations, once more!
