The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has confirmed justice Daisy Okocha as the substantive chief judge of the state. Governor wike said the confirmation follows the December 23, Court of Appeal judgment which cleared Justice Okocha to be appointed as a Chief Judge.
Governor WIKE while swearing-in the Chief Judge on Monday in Port Harcourt, described the Court of Appeal verdict as victory for the rule of law and the respect for the rules of succession as outlined by the NJC.
He said the judgment is binding on all governors to take directive from the NJC on the appointment of Chief Judges in the country and added that his administration will not take actions that will desecrate the independence of the judiciary.
In her response, the new Chief Judge of Rivers State described her appointment as a solemn occasion. She promised to put in measures that will ensure that staff of the state judiciary adheres to the rules of service.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the appointment of Justice Daisy Okocha as the substantive Chief Judge of Rivers State has brought sanity and stability in the Judicial System in the State in particular and the Country as a whole.
Mrs. Banigo congratulated Justice Okocha for being the first female Chief Judge of the State and urged her to carry out her duties with the fear of God.
