The Nigerian Labour Congress led by its National President Waba Ayuba are in Owerri, Imo state, over the lingering disagreement between the state government and the workers in the state.
While addressing the workers at the Nigerian Medical Association Secretariat after a protest march round the streets of the state capital, the NLC President and other leaders of the union from all the South South and South East states said that they are against moves by the government to sack workers while also failing to pay them their salaries for months.
They threatened not to leave the state until all their demands and the plights of the workers in the state are addressed else they will shut down the economy of the state.
“We will close down Imo state. We did it in Plateau, Enugu, and Benue; and we are set to repeat it in Imo. We will lock down banks, markets, airports and everything in Imo state. We will also march to government house and block everywhere. Let this serve as a notice to everyone including the state government,” the labour leaders said.
