Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara was at State House Abuja on Tuesday afternoon and met with President Muhammadu Buhari for several minutes.

Newsmen were however prevented from taking shots and interviewing the Speaker by security men who
claimed they were acting under instructions.

There are speculations that the meeting with the President was to discuss the state of the budget.

The faceoff between the Legislature and the Presidency over the budget has lingered for months with the latest indicator being the refusal of President Buhari to assent to the budget passed by the National Assembly.

The tone of the engagement had been more confrontational than reconciliatory until Sunday, when the Chairman of the joint Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, urged his colleagues at the National Assembly to prepare to review the budget with the view of considering the issues being raised by the Presidency.

Tuesday’s visit of the Speaker, a day after the President met with former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari and ex-President of the Senate, Ken Nnamani might just be bringing closer the timeline for the resolution of the standoff.
