The Court of Appeal siting in Akure, Ondo state capital, has set free the founder of Sotitobire Praising Chapel, Prophet Alfa Babatunde.
In the judgement read by Justice Gamma Barka, on behalf of other Judges, the court quashed the judgement of the Ondo state High Court which sentenced the Prophet to life imprisonment.
The lower court had sentenced Prophet Alfa Babatunde to life imprisonment over the disappearance of one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole in his church in 2019.
The Appeal Court in its Judgment on Friday, ruled that the circumstantial evidence the high court based its judgement is not enough to convict Prophet Babatunde.
Shortly after judgement was delivered, there was celebration by members of the Sotitobire church in Akure.
They trooped out in their numbers to celebrate the court of appeal verdict that set aside their founder’s conviction.
