Pres Jonathan 3

The Federal Government has clarified that the handover date to the incoming administration is May 29 and not May 28 as has been widely reported in the media

Minister of Information Patricia Akwashiki made the clarifications on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at State House Abuja after the weekly Federal Executive Council

Indications had emerged last week that May 28 would be the day President Goodluck JONATHAN handed over the reins of Power to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.  Not surprisingly, speculations had gone viral on reasons for what was seen as an early handover

But the Information Minister is saying things got twisted and that there is in fact no early handover. Rather, she says there is a timetable for the handover which will terminate on May 28

And speaking on the sack of former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, Senator Akwashiki was silent on the reasons for the President’s actions though she was quick to point out that the President acted within his powers

With the government counting down to the handover date, it is obvious that for now nothing really concrete will happen in the just over five weeks that remain
