A policeman was today killed in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos by suspected commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada Riders.
A source told HOMELAND NEWS that the incident occurred when the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, was enforcing the ban on okada on some highways.
The mob also destroyed a police van in the clash that ensued as the riders resisted attempts by the personnel of the taskforce to impound their motorcycles.
A video which emerged online had the voice of someone warning commuters to avoid Ajao Estate and narrated how the clash left a policeman dead.
In the meantime, the taskforce says it will not rest on its oars until disregard for traffic rules and regulations reduces drastically among commercial motorcyclists in the metropolis.
According to the agency, not less than 410 motorcycles were impounded on Wednesday in various location of Lagos.
Head, Public Affairs Unit, Femi Moliki, he explained that officials of the agency carried out enforcement in Isolo, Ojodu-Berger, Ojota, Lagos Island and Surulere last week, while the enforcement drive of the agency was also extended to 2nd Rainbow, where it seized 110 motorbikes.
