Goodluck Jonathan

A Federal High court in Abuja has struck out a suit seeking the disqualification of President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2015 election.

This followed the withdrawal of the suit by the petitioners led by Dr. Junaidu Mohammed and three others.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed had on February 3, 2015 fixed today for the hearing of the suit before today’s withdrawal.

Two other related cases are also before Justice Ahmed Mohammed.

The plaintiffs contend that President Goodluck Jonathan was ineligible to re-contest for the office of the President, arguing that allowing him to do so could amount to spending more than eight years allowed for anyone to serve in the office.

They want the court to declare that it was unconstitutional, unlawful, illegal and not permissible for any person to occupy the office of the president of Nigeria for more than a cumulative and aggregate period of eight years when the country was not at war.
