Another story Rivers state; the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has assumed territorial jurisdiction to hear the petition of the All Progressive Congress.
Tribunal chairman Justice Muazu Pindiga, also rule that all parties be granted access to the electoral materials.
The People’s Democratic Party had challenged the tribunal’s territorial jurisdiction to entertain the petition of the applicant, Dakuku Peterside, of the All Progressives Congress. PDP held that as the election was conducted in Rivers, the tribunal should sit in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The tribunal was moved to Abuja due to the volatile nature of Rivers before, during and after the elections.
This ruling is coming on a day a federal high court in Port Harcourt nullified the elections of the 23 local government chairmen conducted by the administration of the former governor Rotimi Amaechi at the twilight of his reign.
