The Nigerian Police Force has justified the invasion of its men at the National Assembly saying the force was responding to an intelligence report that there was a plot for hoodlums to take over the assemby today.
A statement signed by the force public relations officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu said the force deployed its men to the premises of the national assembly to avert what would have been a breakdown of law and order.
The statement alleged that it was the crowd that came with Speaker Aminu Tambuwal that assaulted the officers on duty and violated due process which prompted the officers to apply lawful means in restoring normalcy.
The statement warned politicians to play by the rules and avoid the use of thugs to disturb public peace.
