Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state on warned Fulani herdsmen not to try attack anybody in Ekiti State. He threatened that his people were fully ready to deal with any Fulani herdsman who threatened their livelihood.
Gov. Fayose said he would continue to criticize president Mohammadu Buhari anytime he goes wrong.
He however noted that as his grandfather, it becomes improper for him to abuse President Buhari as widely claimed.
But he maintained that “being his grandfather” does not mean he would not criticise him when going in the wrong direction.
Governor Fayose who was a Guest Speaker at the Nigeria Union of Journalists World Press Freedom Day lecture in Ibadan said he would rather die than conceal the truth .
Speaking on the topic “Journalism and Politics : Two Sides of A Coin,” the governor said that he is never afraid to die or be locked away .
According to him, his criticism of President Buhari is healthy for Nigeria and the people of the country.
He said it would be absurd for all to watch and refuse to talk even when the ship of the nation is drifting away dangerously to perdition.
Citing instances of illegal arrest and detention of some Nigerians by agents of the federal government without evidence of any criminal charges, governor Fayose stated that it was against the rights of any citizen to be detained for several weeks without any proof, to fish for information .
Governor Fayose also called on Journalist in the country to hold leaders accountable in other to save the country from the challenges confronting it.
According to him, a lot of journalist does not have loyalty in Nigeria and what they are concerned about is their stomach.
The governor said journalists in the country were been downsized and were used for dirty jobs, adding that journalists should remember that Nigerians need them more than politicians.
