Barring any change in plan, the All Progressives Congress will zone the Presidency to the southern part of Nigeria.
This indication was revealed after a closed-door meeting between governors elected on the platform of the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Governor of Kebbi state, Atiku Bagudu, told journalists that President Buhari is favoured tote National Chairman that will emerge through consensus that the ballot.
He reasoned that a consensus chairman will be in the interest of the party.
Gov Bagugu admitted that the President believes that all the aspirants who have indicated interest in the contest are also competent and qualified to occupy the office of national chairman.
Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna state, disclosed that the party has agreed on a zoning formula for all six geopolitical zones.
The arrangement provides that the positions occupied by the northern zones in the last eight years will be swapped with the southern zones.
Top on the attention list is the Presidency which has been occupied by Muhammadu Buhari, from Katsina, a north eastern state.
The 22 APC governors met on Monday night, after the postponement of the party’s national convention to 26th of March was announced.
Then on Tuesday, they met with President Buhari where the delicate issues in the party were discussed.
