National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to succeed him by next year.
Asiwaju Tinubu disclosed this to correspondents on Monday, after a meeting with the President at the Villa.
The former governor of Lagos state who said he is still consulting widely, told reporters that he will in due course make his final decision public.
He admitted that there has been lots of pressure from within the APC and outside, for him to throw his had into the ring, for the forth coming Presidential election.
Despite that, Asiwaju Tinubu is confifent that he is most suited to take over from President Buhari, at this critical time of the country’s development.
Bola Tinubu spearheaded the formation of the APC, prior to the 2015 election, where an incumbent President lost election for the first time in the country.
He became governor of Lagos in 1999 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy, which produced all the six state governors in the South Western part of the country.
By the next election in 2003, the PDP took over the South West, but for Lagos, where Bola Tinubu proved too tough to be defeated.
From then, he became the rallying point of opposition elements across party lines until the emergence of the APC presidency on 2015.
If he goes ahead to seek the actualization of his ambition, his first challenge will be neutralizing the forces against him within the APC.
