The political arrangement to throw up Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu as the consensus governorship candidate of the PDP in Ebonyi state seems to have run into troubled waters.
Leaders of thoughts from various communities, youths and professional groups in the State have rejected the endorsement calling it impossible.
While briefing news men in Abakaliki, the group said the decision was taken without the knowledge, and consent of the leaders of thought, stakeholders and members of the executive of the ruling party in the state.
A statement read by Dr. Jerry Uhuo, was also signed by Mr. Ben Bright-Mkpuma, John Okpo and Chinedu Nwoye.
It will be recalled that the announcement of Prof. Chukwu as the PDP consensus gubernatorial candidate took place recently in Abakaliki, during an event organized by Governor Martin Elechi, for Muslims and non-Muslims members of the party in the state.
However, those opposed to the decision said, “There is no gainsaying the fact that the decision was taken without the knowledge, approval and consent of the youths, leaders of thought, stakeholders and the Ebonyi State executive of the ruling party.
“It is beyond dissolute that under the constitution of the PDP, there is no provision for power rotation or consensus candidacy. The party believes in the enthronement of internal democracy.
They insisted that leaders in the party were expected to emerge through due process and through conventions and congresses and urged the National leadership of the party to play according to the rules to avoid deepening the rancor.
