President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that government has not received all the weapons it paid for to prosecute the new offensive against insurgents
He spoke on Sunday at a youth rally in Lagos as he stepped up the offensive to capture the state, meeting various groups that he felt would deliver votes for him in elections later this month
The President must have met with ten different groups on Sunday trying to evolve the right strategy that would capture votes for himself and win over the Lagos electorate
Some of the groups included industrialists, major transport owners, the People’s Democratic Party candidates in Lagos and even bloggers
It is not yet clear how well the strategy has worked or even if these groups can influence a large number of people outside of themselves, but the President is not leaving anything to chance
It is interesting to note that many of these persons were in groups he met four years ago and this is probably the first time he is meeting them again in the past four years
At the end of the day the President rounded things up at an elaborate youth rally at the Eko Hotel and Towers
The first session, questions and answer on many of the issues that have bothered the mind of Nigerians
For instance why intensify the war against the insurgents a few days to the elections?
What would he do to improve the lot of youths if he comes back for a second term?
The second session: identifying with the youths and letting his hair down.
Amidst the euphoria it is unclear whether these youth will remember what the real issues are after the President has departed
For the present, they are content that Nigeria’s number one citizen came to hang out with them and answer their questions
A PR coup without a doubt
