Distribution of the permanent voter cards in the suspended 9 local government areas began in Lagos today with another round of controversies. Some polling centers did not have their cards delivered but were marked for fresh registration.
One of such is in the Onitolo ward in Surulere Local government where Governor Babatunde Fashola was expected to pick his card this morning. Our correspondent, who arrived at the center at 8am, noticed a paper posted at the gate informing registrants to return for a fresh registration from the 8th of December.
Governor Fashola who arrived in Lagos from Abuja this morning expressed his frustration at what he referred as poor job by the electoral commission.
“You can imagine after the suspension of these local government areas, one would have expected that INEC will get it right for once.”
The governor insisted that what has happened in Lagos state regarding the distribution of the voter cards is part of a calculated plot to disorganize the voting pattern of the state to suit the PDP.
INEC had announced that only voters with the permanent card will be allowed to cast their votes during the 2015 general election. As it is now that many eligible voters in the state will be going back for fresh registration, how certain is it that their cards will be ready before the election which is about three months away?
