dakuku-peterside

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State has ratified the adoption of Dakuku Peterside as the consensus governorship candidate of the party for the 2015 governorship election in the state.

The APC caucus in Rivers State had last week announced Dakuku Peterside as the sole candidate of the party for the governorship election.

More than three thousand APC delegates voted today at the governorship primaries in support of the consensus status of the Dakuku Peterside.

Other aspirants who had earlier indicated interest for the position including the Rivers State Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru and the Senator Representing Rivers South East Senatorial District Magnus Abe did not pick form for the APC governorship primary.

Governor Rotimi Amaechi before the commencement of voting said the decision to endorse Dakuku Peterside was taken by the caucus of the party and is not any form of imposition.

With this now, it seems the party has succeeded in harmonizing the various interests. It will be recalled that there were clashes in some parts of the state between groups within the APC in Rivers after the adoption of Mr. Peterside was announced.

His candidacy has provided a huge task for the rival PDP in Rivers State. There is a popular sentiment for the minority ethnic nationality in the state to produce the successor to Gov. Amaechi. Mr. Peterside is from Opobo, which is of Ijaw extraction.
