Hundreds of protesters stormed the National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party as protesters from the River State Chapter of the party stormed the complex in protest against allege injustice during last Saturday’s House of Assembly primaries in the state.
The angry protesters, who laid siege at the party headquarters as early as 7am before the arrival of the secretariat staff, took over the entire premises with the promise that they would not go anywhere until their demands were meant.
They barricaded the road leading to the party headquarters and locked the gate of the secretariat.
Their grievances, it was gathered premised on the irregularities in the just concluded House of Assembly primaries conducted in the state.
They alleged that there was no ward congress and that there was no reason given to those who were disqualified from the assembly’s primaries.
PDP in Rivers State has been in a pot of storm over the ambition of the former Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Nwike. Apart from Mr. Nwike, other aspirants are opposed to Nwike’s ambition because as they said it is injustice for Nwike to succeed Gov. Amaechi who is considered to be his brother, having come from the same part of the state.
