The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of another security agent in a shootout with unknown gunmen in Rivers state. This is the second incident where security officials were targeted by the insurgents few hours to Saturday’s re-run elections in the state.
On Thursday, an Army Major and other soldiers were killed by gunmen identified as sea pirates in Rivers state. Read story here
On Friday, a combined team of the army, police, DSS was on patrol when they were attacked at Egi in Omoku Community of Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area.
The exchange of fire lasted several hours before the gunmen were dislodged but that was after a security agent have been killed.
A statement signed by Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Eli Lazarus said normalcy has been restored to the area and urged the public to remain calm and law abiding.
Captain Lazarus assures that security agencies will continue to work assiduously to ensure security of lives and property during and after the elections.
