What would have been an unprecedented catastrophe was averted in Owerri, the Imo state capital after a distress call helped the police to defuse an explosive planted in a very busy eatery.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali while addressing newsmen the police was able to swing into action after a call was put across to them over Wednesday night. He said that the perpetrators of the act notified the business owners through the phone that bombs had been planted in the premises and went ahead to demand a ransom.
He stated that the police will unearth those behind the act but also called on citizens to continue to give quick and useful information that will assist the police in carrying out their responsibilities of adequately protecting lives and property.
On the coming festive period, the police boss assured the people of the state that the police will work round the clock to ensure that they have a crime free Christmas celebration.
