The Federal Government has finally commenced trial of the Nyanya bomb attack suspects, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche and 5 others before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Appearing for the prosecution was Mohammed Diri who informed the court that the state has 37 exhibits and 6 witnesses to tender before it.
Upon the first witnesses’ assertion that Ogwuche had been deported from the United Kingdom over terror activities in 2011, Ogwuche’s counsel, Ahmed Raji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria objected and argued that the suspect was not in trial over his UK activities but over his involvement in a Nigerian bomb attack.
In his ruling the trial judge, Justice A.R Mohammed upheld the objection of the defence counsel on the grounds that the oral evidence cannot be admitted in court until a valid deportation order is presented.
HOMELAND NEWS reports that the trial will continue on Wednesday, as the prosecution witness one, is billed for cross examination by the defence counsel.
The trial of the suspect had been delayed to the shock of many Nigerians. Part of the reasons for the confusion in prosecuting the alleged bomber was the conflict between the Police and the DSS over who should take the lead in the process.
Meanwhile trial of another bomb suspect, Henry Okah scheduled for Tuesday, could not hold as a result of the judges absence. Henry is suspected to have plotted the 2010 Independence Day bombing in Abuja.
