Member representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency at House of Representatives, and chairman, house committee on environment, Uche Ekwunife has called on contractors engaged to control erosion sites across the country to apply more professionalism in carrying out the task.
Hon. Ekwunife gave the charge during an on-the-spot assessment of some of the ecological fund projects carried out in some parts of Anambra state by the federal government.
Disturbed by the high rate of erosion in parts of the federation particularly in the south east region, the federal government had over the years awarded contracts to some construction companies to help reduce the threats posed by this natural disaster.
For effective result, there is need for adequate monitoring and supervision of the projects.
This was one of the bases for the tour of some erosion prone areas by some members of the House committee led by Uche Ekwunife.
In their assessment of the projects, members of the committee applauded some contractors that have successfully controlled erosions in their designated areas but expressed dissatisfaction over the projects that are yet to be completed. They called on the ministry of the environment to ensure that projects are monitored so that people will enjoy dividends of democracy.
Some of the areas visited include-Oburagu road-Enugu Agidi, Nimo community, Ifite dunu and Alor.
