A Deputy-Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof.Charles Esimone has observed that people tend to desert Anambra state for fear of the dreaded Ebola virus disease since it was reported at the Nnewi axis of the state.
Prof.Esimone also lamented that facilities like mobile isolation centres were not available for rapid response and control of the Ebola virus disease in the state to nip it in the bud anywhere in the state it was ever reported. He emphasized that it was pertinent for the state government to consider establishment of mobile quarantine centres to allay fears as well as engender free and normal inter-personal relations amongst members of the public in the state.
The university don however extolled the efforts of the federal government in the control of the spread of Ebola especially with the setting up of the committee on Ebola in order to frontally tackle the scourge in the country.
He said the university may also solicit the support of the FG’s committee on Ebola to carry out its research on the discovery of a potent drug for the treatment of the virulent disease while urging the Anambra state government to expedite action in setting up mobile Ebola isolation centres in the state as it was a veritable means to safeguard public health.
